Compress a video under Discord's 10 MB limit

Discord's free upload limit is 10 MB per file; anything bigger gets rejected unless you have Nitro. The Discord preset targets 10 MB and outputs H.264/AAC MP4, which Discord embeds with an inline player. Because 10 MB is tight, the biggest wins come from trimming to the moment that matters and dropping resolution.

Compress for Discord (10 MB) →

How to do it

  1. Open the compressor with the Discord preset (10 MB target).
  2. Load your clip — game captures in MKV or MP4 both work.
  3. Trim to just the highlight. A 30-second clip at 10 MB gets roughly 2.5 Mbps.
  4. Set resolution to 720p for anything over ~30 seconds; 480p for over a minute.
  5. Compress, download, and drag the MP4 into your Discord channel.

FAQ

What is the Discord upload limit without Nitro?

At the time of writing, free accounts can upload files up to 10 MB. Nitro raises this considerably.

Will the compressed video embed in Discord?

Yes. The output is H.264 video with AAC audio in an MP4 container with faststart, which Discord plays inline.

Can I compress OBS or ShadowPlay recordings?

Yes. MKV and MP4 recordings are accepted. Very long, high-bitrate recordings are limited by your device's memory, so trim first if you only need a clip.
