Trim a video

Cut a video to an exact start and end time. Nothing is uploaded — and the fast mode doesn't re-encode, so there's no quality loss.

How trimming in your browser works

Most online video trimmers upload your file to a server, cut it there, and hand you back a download. This one doesn't. The trimmer runs as WebAssembly inside your browser tab, so your video or audio is read straight off your disk and never travels anywhere.

Fast mode is lossless. Cutting a file doesn't inherently require re-encoding it — the streams can simply be copied into a new container between two points. That's what fast mode does, which is why a 500 MB clip trims in about a second and comes out pixel-identical to the original. The one trade-off is that a stream copy can only cut on a keyframe, so the actual start may land a second or two before the time you asked for.

Precise mode is frame-exact. When the cut has to land on an exact frame, precise mode re-encodes the video with H.264 at a high quality setting. It's slower and, like any re-encode, technically lossy — but the cut is exactly where you put it.

Audio files always use the lossless path: audio frames are short enough that a stream copy is effectively sample-accurate, so there's no trade-off to make.

Need a smaller file rather than a shorter one? The compressor targets a specific file size for WhatsApp, email or Discord — and it can trim at the same time.
